4 Shot at Howe Community Park Sacramento — Unsanctioned Gathering Erupts in Gunfire

Late Saturday evening, a large unauthorized party of an estimated several hundred individuals at the Howe Park area in Sacramento's Arden-Arcade neighborhood turned violent when an estimated 20 to 25 gunshots were discharged as deputies from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office were actively breaking up the gathering.

How It Unfolded

At approximately 6:30 PM, the Sacramento County Sheriff was alerted about individuals who may have been carrying concealed weapons at the park. An additional caller reported a potential fight and people leaving the area quickly.

Law enforcement air support was called in and searched the park but was unable to locate any ongoing altercation.

Despite this, a large crowd had gathered at the park for what officials called an unauthorized event. Law enforcement personnel encircled the park, illuminated the area with emergency lights, and took about 15 minutes announcing over loudspeakers for people to leave over loudspeakers.

While law enforcement cleared the gathering, 20 to 25 rounds of gunfire rang out — causing hundreds to flee in panic.

The Injured

Four shooting victims — a woman and three men, all young adults in their 20s — were rushed to local hospitals. Two were treated for immediate injuries, one was read more classified with moderate injuries, and one suffered injuries classified as minor. The Investigation Scene

The incident occurred on the Cottage Way side of the park adjacent to the Home Depot at the 2200 block of Howe Avenue in Sacramento. The nearby Home Depot was locked down for a period of time. Further shell casings were identified on Cottage Way, with projectile damage found in the wrought iron fencing around the nearby Home Depot — showing shots fired in a southward direction from along Cottage Way toward the Home Depot parking lot. Crime scene investigators and detectives worked the scene throughout the night.

What We Know About Suspects

According to scanner audio, it was reported that a vehicle connected to the shooting — a Kia — was pulled over in the Solano County area with four detainees. read more Sacramento more info County Sheriff's units were en route to collect the suspects and bring them back to Sacramento for questioning.
